Mangrove Research and Training Forests (MRTF) are forested landscapes designated for research, demonstration trials, education, and training in order to provide a basis for sustainable management of mangrove resources. MRTFs provide a focal point for long-term monitoring and research, which is needed to produce information to support adaptive management strategies addressing issues associated with sustainable management, conservation, restoration, and uncertainties caused by climate change. The MRTFs enhance individual projects by facilitating collaboration, data management and outreach capabilities.  The MRTF approach also facilitates effective interdisciplinary research efforts and inclusion of the surrounding communities in resource management and conservation.
